Wellington Firebirds allrounder Jesse Tashkoff has been offered the sixteenth and final Firebirds contract for the 2023/24 season.

The 22-year-old made his First-Class debut for the Firebirds late in the 2022/23 season against Canterbury in his only senior team appearance to date. Tashkoff has history in both the Cricket Wellington and New Zealand Cricket pathways systems, most notably captaining the New Zealand U19 Men in early 2020.

Considered a talent with both bat and ball, Tashkoff will have a chance to expand his role with the Firebirds this season.

Director of cricket, Bruce Edgar, says Tashkoff’s contract is a sign of things to come.

“Jesse is a player that we’ve been excited about for a while now,” said Edgar.

“He’s made big contributions for our pathways teams and he’s developing into a very good cricketer.

“We’re looking forward to getting him into our system this year and watching his continued development”, said Edgar.

Tashkoff said earning a Firebirds contract is a great step in his career.

“It's been a privilege to be involved with this group for the last couple of years [as a rookie]", said Tashkoff.

"Being offered a contract is exciting and I can't wait go get to work with a great bunch of lads."

"I'm looking forward to the team coming together this summer"

The Firebirds will begin their official pre-season preparations for the 2023-4 summer on September 1.
