Cricket Wellington and the Wellington Firebirds are announcing Finn Allen’s departure as he moves home to join the Auckland Aces. The decision comes after extensive discussions and deliberations between all parties involved, keeping in mind the best interests of the player and the development of New Zealand cricket.

Finn Allen, who received his first domestic contract with the Wellington Firebirds in 2020/21, expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he received with the Wellington Firebirds "I am incredibly grateful to Cricket Wellington and the Firebirds for the opportunities and support provided to me here," said Allen. "My time here has been fantastic from a cricketing and personal perspective, growing my own game and being a part of a great team environment. The fans in Wellington have been so good to me and it’s been a pleasure to play for them over the last few years.”

Bruce Edgar, Director of Cricket at Cricket Wellington, acknowledged Allen's immense talent and contributions to the Wellington Firebirds. "Finn has been an exceptional player for us, and we are proud of his achievements during his tenure with the Firebirds," said Edgar.

Cricket Wellington recognizes Finn Allen's significant impact on the team's success over the years. His dynamic batting style, combined with his ability to score at a rapid pace, was a key part of the Super Smash winning team in 2020/21, as Allen led the tournament with 512 runs scored at a strike rate of 194. His departure will undoubtedly leave a void in the team, but it also creates an opportunity for emerging talents to step up and make their mark.

"While it is always disappointing to see a player of Finn's calibre move on, we understand his desire for a fresh start and the chance to explore new opportunities”, said Edgar. “We wish him the very best as he embarks on this exciting chapter with Auckland."
